The GOG was established by a group of far-sighted gynecologic surgeons with a special interest in quality clinical research, and to this day, continues on this life-saving quest. The GOG is the only National Cancer Institute (NCI) cooperative cancer research group that focuses on women with pelvic malignancies such as cancer of the ovary, uterus, and cervix.  Although the GOG has been funded by a grant from NCI, many worthwhile projects are not undertaken because there is not adequate support. The NEW HORIZONS Fund is being instituted to meet this financial need by helping to offset the cost of these "hoped-for" research projects and clinical trials.
