"Ovarian Cancer Updates"
Winter 2007, San Diego, CA
This symposium provides
an overview of new basic and translational science work in
ovarian cancer including proteomics, pharmacogenomics, and
vaccine therapy. In addition, it provides a series discussing
the pathologic, molecular, and clinical rational behind
considering mucinous, clear cell, and low grade serous ovarian
cancers as distinct from the more common high grade serous
papillary cancers. There is also a session dedicated to the
controversies surrounding trial design and endpoints for ovarian
cancer.

"Clinical Trials for the Elderly"
Summer 2006, Washington, DC
Cancer is a disease
of the elderly, and the U.S. population is aging. The percentage
of GYN oncology patients who are over the age of 65 or 70 years
will continue to increase. In general, the number of elderly
women on clinical cancer trials has been disproportionately low
compared to the incidence of cancer in the population. Whether
this is best addressed by vigorous recruitment of the elderly to
currently existing trials or by designing separate trials is a
matter of some debate. The new field of geriatric oncology is
training physicians to answer some of these questions.
